SYMBOLIC  CAMERA

This is my symbolic camera, which is an exercise we had to do to help find our motivations and reflexivity within our film making journey. For my symbolic camera, I used decided to put on each side parts of me that i connect to creatively. For example, you can see on one side there is some old film, taken from my studies of film photography at A level, and a part of an old painting that I did- just a small section that I cut out. On the back, there is a mirror that shows your reflection. In this way, I wanted to convey the idea of your camera being an extension of yourself, and the images/ footage you decide to take are an extension of yourself and your own thoughts, desires and motivations. This I feel largely helped with the style of my film, which ended up being very hand held and simplistic in its methodology. This made me realize that all I really had to do was follow my motivations and the journey I decided to make and allow this to lead me. This as well meant that in the end product of my film, I as the one behind the camera was very present both in a physical and metaphorical sense- just as my symbolic camera shows on the sides and the reflection on the back.
